The year was 1989. The International Race of Champions was in its 13th season and Dale Earnhardt qualified for participation for the fifth time in his short career. Race three of that IROC season was held at Michigan International Speedway on August 5th. Dale Earnhardt drove a pink #3 Chevrolet Camaro in this race and led three different times. Dale Earnhardt finished fourth in the IROC standings that year.
